Gameiro: "Everything changes if we finish fourth"

The striker conversed with VCF Media Radio on Wednesday

The final months of the 2018/19 season have been fruitful for Kevin Gameiro, who has scored several important goals and helped his side to their current fourth place.

The French striker was a guest on VCF Media Radio on Wednesday, to preview the final LaLiga encounter of the campaign against Real Valladolid and talk about his current form.

The target of fourth place
“This is the last LaLiga game of the season, and we know what we have to do: Finish fourth and achieve the club's objective. It's the first time we've been in this position in the table, and we have to give our all in Valladolid. We all want to finish fourth."

A successful end to the season
"We've had a very difficult year. We didn't start well, but we still have this last league game and the Copa del Rey final in which to finish it off well. We only wanted to win against Alavés, and then see what happened in Getafe's game against Barcelona. It wasn't an easy game, because Alavés scored, but we were able to win and place fourth."

Wary of Valladolid
"Everybody thinks that it's going to be easy, but nothing is in football. We have to play like we did against Huesca and Alavés. It's better to score an early goal, but we have to fight to the end. We musn't fail."

"We've had a great second half of the season, but it wasn't easy because we played a lot of games. Playing every three days has been tough. But we've reached the end of the season with a chance of finishing fourth, and we're into the Copa del Rey final. We always work with calm, and we have't changed our plan of going step by step."

A clear objective
"Everything changes if we finish fourth. If we win the Copa del Rey, people will forget about the bad start to the season. We're also very motivated to win at Valladolid. The team are in good shape and we all know what we have to do."

Individual form
"When the team works well, I do too. The first six months weren't easy. Over time, everything has improved and we now know how each of us plays. Valencia CF have done great things in the second half of the season. I work for the team, and also to score goals. That's always been my style and my strength, throughout my career; I think more about the team than about myself.

"I've started games from the bench, and when I come on I always try to help the team to win. Goals give you more confidence, which is vital for a striker. I came on against Betis in the cup for the final five minutes, and set up one goal and scored another."
